PSL’s and Banyan Bowls

Most people are just diving into Fall Bucket Lists filling weekends with apple picking, pumpkin carving, and football season. PSL’s don’t quite taste like fall when you’re still ordering Açaí bowls and walking down palm tree lined streets.


I did just try this amazing spot dangerously close to my apartment called Basik Açaí Cafe. I’m not really sure what they are putting into their Banyan Bowls but it was clutch. I should branch out but I hit the jackpot on a first order and I’m not sure anything else will be able to stand up.

Keep Your Roots Local


I grew up in Cincinnati. 17 years later and I still hadn’t wandered down to Findlay Market. Every other thing that you’re supposed to cross off your hometown bucket list was complete. Sometimes it takes a trip back home and a weekend as a tourist to see a city in a completely different light. I’ll save that hometown rant for another day… 🙂

Let There Be Brunch

If your weekend doesn’t include Brunch, then you’re doing it wrong. Just keep in mind that this is also coming from the person that spent an absurd amount of money to attend a brunch convention (#NoShame) and didn’t even get a gram. I mean what else are you supposed to do right after your food arrives. Eat it?

Regardless, Chicago has this beautiful restaurant in the Soho house called The Allis. 110% would recommend. Now if only I could figure out where to eat this coming weekend.

Chloe Chardonnay

IMG_7395Somewhere, somehow in the past 10 months post grad, I was supposed to pick up years and years of wine knowledge. Gone are the days of boxes and Barefoot. Instead, I’m expected to understand why the hell you swirl your wine, smell it, and then take a sip. I would put mad cash on 90% of people not actually knowing what they are doing when they do that. Fake it until you make it, am I right?

What I’ve learned: You swirl wine for various reasons. Mostly what it does is expose bottled up wine to the air. Ok, big deal, but you know that scene in Aladdin. The one where Genie pops out of the lamp. He floats out and all of this color erupts and personality takes over the screen.

“10,000 years will give you such a crick in the neck.”

That’s kind of what happens when you swirl and let your wine sit for a little bit. A brilliant flavor erupts. It just requires oxygen.

As for smell, well, it gives you a preview of what you’re drinking. Had I known this prior to drinking the bottle, I would’ve smelled hints of apple, pear and vanilla. But tbh I picked up the bottle only because I liked the label. Fortunately I discovered that I love the wine so it was a win-win for me.
